Expert Tips
Control the corners: Corner pieces can never be flipped. Securing all four corners almost always wins the game — play towards them.
Fewer is better early: Having fewer pieces mid-game often gives you more moves. Don't greedily flip everything — control comes from mobility.
Avoid edges next to corners: Placing on a cell adjacent to a corner lets your opponent take that corner on their next move.

GOAL

Have more pieces on the board than the AI when the game ends. The board starts with 2 white and 2 black pieces in the centre.

RULES

  • You must place a piece that sandwiches at least one opponent piece in a straight line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal).
  • All sandwiched pieces immediately flip to your colour.
  • If you have no valid moves, your turn is skipped.
  • The game ends when the board is full or both players have no moves.

SCORING

Win score = your pieces × 10. Draw = your pieces × 5. Loss = 50 pts regardless. Higher difficulty multiplies the win score.

Why this sharpens your mind

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Reversi rewards thinking several moves ahead — a hallmark of executive function. Strong players think about mobility (available moves) not just piece count.
